Want to be healthier and feel fitter? Of course you do! Virender Sodhi, MD, ND, believes we can move much closer to a world of disease-free societies by following the laws of nature. As you gear up for summer, try his top five tips to stay true to your goals.

Get away from the instant-gratification mentality because it’s unrealistic to think you’ll go from 0 to 60 in just a few months; health is a long-term labor of love, and commitment is key.

Establish good habits! You’ll want to set the right goals; if you want to lose 100 pounds, focus on the first 10, and then the next. Make sure to establish new and good habits each takes about 28 days to stick. Once you train your mind with good habits, achieving your goals becomes much easier.

Remember frequency, intensity, and time these are the three investments you’ll need for losing weight or gaining muscle. As a general rule, exercise at least 30 minutes three to four times a week; establish the appropriate intensity for your health so you?re seeing results but aren’t going so hard that you’re prone to quit; and don’t think that it’s always better to exercise for a longer duration because what matters is the quality of the exercise.

Solidify the gains with persistent positive reinforcement. These improvements might relate to stress levels, breathing, energy, sex life, mood, and overall strength. Recognize your accomplishments with healthy rewards!

Embrace supplemental support, such as eating more veggies to support your commitment to exercise or beginning a daily meditation practice to feed your health kick and provide unexpected benefits. Flavor meals with spices like garlic, onion, black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, long pepper, and cayenne pepper, which all have thermogenic properties to stimulate metabolism.

Get Glowing Summer Skin

Prepping skin for summer means more than just relying on your trusty face wash; an effective skincare regimen includes multiple products and precise application, explains Teresa Stenzel, director of education at Bioelements. Here are her top tips to achieve a healthy, luminous complexion.

>> Start with a clean slate. Cleansers alone don’t always unclog pores and wipe away dirt and oil, so your first task should be to remove any and all makeup.

>> Tone up. Rehydrate and balance skin’s texture with a simple swipe of toner. The saturation found in this essential product will help skin to absorb the active ingredients in products you’ll apply next.

>> Be smart with serums. Now that your skin is prepped, apply a skin serum designed to target your biggest concern. If you have more than one skin concern, you can alternate, applying one during the day and the other at night.

>> Moisturize and protect. Perhaps the most crucial step, hydrating skin while guarding it from the sun’s harmful UV rays is imperative to a healthy appearance. Always apply a daily moisturizing sunscreen before leaving the house for optimal protection.
