The Do’s and Don’ts of Breakouts

Category: Lifestyle 15 0

Having a breakout of zits can be tough, especially when they seem to appear just before a big event or a night out with the girls. There are good ways to get rid of zits that aren’t harmful to the surrounding area and won’t leave a scar. There are many myths on the internet about the best way to get rid of a spot, but unless it is advice from a dermatologist, it’s best not to try it out. Here are the do’s and don’ts if you wake up with zits.

Do: Get Ice on It

The best way to reduce the swelling and pain of a new spot is to apply ice to it. Do not apply ice directly to the skin, wrap an ice cube or some crushed ice in a clean face cloth and apply it to the area. Not only will it help reduce the look of the spot, ice can improve blood circulation to the affected area, meaning it will tighten the skin pores, making that spot go away faster. This won’t get rid of the spot completely, but it will make it a lot easier to cover with makeup.

Don’t: Pop It!

The first obvious thing to do when we have a zit is to pop it. Many people find this incredibly satisfying and the look of a yellow head is not attractive. Although this seems like the best way to get rid of it, actually you are just making an open wound on your face that is susceptible to bacteria and, therefore, will probably form into another spot. Not only this, you are more at risk of leaving a scar. If you are dealing with a lot of zits, you may be suffering from acne and will need acne treatment.

Do: Increase Your Fluid Intake

If you want to help reduce breakouts for good, drinking enough water can help keep our skin healthy and less at risk from zits. Many of us do not drink the recommended amount of water per day, and this can affect many parts of our body, including our skin. Water flushes toxins out of your body and it contains many nutrients vital for healthy, radiant skin. Drinking water gets rid of the bad bacteria that can then form into a zit on the skin.

Don’t: Believe Everything the Internet Tells You

We all have different skin, and whilst someone may have used toothpaste to get rid of their spot, it may not work for you and could damage your skin. Toothpaste was made for the teeth. It is a strong substance and our skin is not meant to deal with such harsh substances. Perfume should never be used on a spot either; anything fragranced should be kept away from our faces, especially if you have sensitive skin.

If you are really struggling with breakouts, it may be best to talk to your doctor about treatment, as you may need something you cannot purchase over the counter.
